Confirmed from Muir Woods Panoramic trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Muir Woods Panoramic trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (38 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 8 mentions

“Beautiful view of the Redwood forest below.”

Nice 3.5 miles loop. 300 feet drop down to the fern creek. Lush redwoods with multiple creek crossings. On Nov 15 the weather was very nice - in the mid 60's.

★★★★★ — Steve , Nov 2021

Take a hike up the trail from the main forest floor and get up to the panoramic trail and rise up over the forests tall Redwoods and spruce trees drop back down and walk along the stream and the ferns und the big Trees

★★★★★ — T. , Aug 2019

Beautiful hike even on a foggy day. Entering from the top at the Panoramic Highway entrance means: A) access with my 40 foot RV was no problem, the warnings about driving the lower Frank Valley road seem to be serious. B) you don't pay admission of $15 / person! I loved every minute of it... 💛

★★★★★ — Randolf , Sep 2024

It was a beautiful day. The hike was moderate, but the views were far beyond amazing. The trees kept on getting bigger and I felt a lot smaller. Great way to get into Muir Woods without the crazy crowds.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
