Confirmed from Natural Lands' Mariton Wildlife Sanctuary's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Vast nature preserve with a trail system, observation points overlooking the river & a library.

What a beautiful trail system with such natural variety and some elevation as well. A really beautiful area to come hike. Also I really like the information posts around the park, I learned quite a bit from them!

Always a treat to go here. Nice trail system, and many options of trails to go on. There’s two cliff overlooks that are very nice to go to. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a nice hike.

★★★★★ — Ethan , Nov 2022

Mariton is perched on the steep slopes of Bougher Hill overlooking the scenic Delaware River. This preserve has over six miles of trails that are very well marked. Two highlight of the preserve’s trail system is the River Lookout Trail and the Squeeze Trail.

Wonderful place with a variety of trails. Depending on the trail, the hike can be easy to challenging. The terrain is very diverse, the foliage is varied and interesting. Informational signs add another dimesion and educate the visitors about the complexities of the forest and its preservation.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Natural Lands' Mariton Wildlife Sanctuary

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
