I love walking my dogs here. I live on a really bad street, and when I go here with my pups it makes me feel like I'm not in New Bedford anymore! And it's absolutely wonderful!!
This is a seriously beautiful walk on top of the hurricane barrier. There are several places to park, at either end or in the middle on Cove Road, where you can easily access the walk. A little over a mile from end to end, there's always a refreshing breeze blowing off the water.
This walkway is part of the Blue Lane, a pathway along the water. The two current sections are HarborWalk and CoveWalk, with RiverWalk expected to open some time in the future. These walks are along the New Bedford Hurricane Protection Barrier run by the Army Corp of Engineers to save the city from flooding.
Beautiful scenery of the water, with places to stop and chill, on a bench or the beach as you're walking. I walked from the New Bedford side to the Fairhaven side, it was approximately 6 miles, and it was so enjoyable I didn't even notice how far I'd walked.
