We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Nipmuck trail yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Nipmuck trail
“Beautiful yet challenging trail on the northern section of the Nipmuck Trail, which is one of the Blue-Blazed trails managed by the Connecticut Forest and Park Association.”
Beautiful yet challenging trail on the northern section of the Nipmuck Trail, which is one of the Blue-Blazed trails managed by the Connecticut Forest and Park Association. The trail is mostly loose rocks and a lot of tree roots with some nice runnable sections.
A super beautiful CT Blue Blazed Trail! I’ve hiked the length of the trail and run a trail marathon here, and it has all been lovely. This is a more runnable, moderate trail than some of the others in the state, not super hilly terrain, and especially stunning during foliage season.
Parking is not great, but the fewer people you see on a trail the better in my opinion. The terrain wasn't difficult for me and my 11 year old to hike. Excellent forest vibes!
Tons of great hikes in Ashford and surrounding towns! Options for all experience levels. Be sure to check out the 50 foot cliff preserve trail (pictured below in various weather conditions) for a relatively flat and short hike to a great view!
