Confirmed from Oaklands Town Forest's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Wooded area featuring miles of trails that are popular for hiking and mountain biking.
What runners say about Oaklands Town Forest
“Beautiful scenic variety and great exercise with some small to medium hills and LOTS of granite.”
“It's a great place to trail run, not a lot of very but great single track.”
Great trails!! Easily over 10 miles of trail options! Some are a bit hard to follow and some are marked very well! Make sure you bring a map or GPS so you know which way you're going!!! Dog friendly just need to be kept on leash and pick up after them! I would recommend!!!! Great options for all skill levels!!
Wonderful extensive trail system for walking, hikers/mountain biking. Some areas are rocky or tree roots so take caution. Also I recommend bringing a compass as some trails aren’t marked very well
I've gone here for years. Beautiful scenic variety and great exercise with some small to medium hills and LOTS of granite. This place is great for mountain biking or hiking on foot.
Some of the best mountaun bike trails in the seacoast area. But know your skill level. The majority of these tracks are rocky and difficult. All in all an amazing trail system
Trail conditions & character
“Parts are rocky and/or full of roots, so not for people who are not used to fairly rough terrain.”
“fairly technical with lots of rocks on the Red loop”

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
