We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Old Skyline Trail yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Old Skyline Trail
“You can hike up or drive up Skyline drive either way a great view.”
I enjoy this hike. If you hike in the afternoon there is shade and places to rest on the way up.
Cool drive and great views. CAUTION This is about 3 mile one-way trip right on top of the ridge line, with steep drops on both sides. Not for the feint-hearted. Don’t try to turnaround!! It is an asphalt road about 10-12 ft wide. Starts on the highway west of town then ends on the residential streets in town.
You can hike up or drive up Skyline drive either way a great view. Bird watching was fun because when they flew over the ridge riding the currents they were smokin.
Once you get past the fear of driving off the ridge of this mountain you can get to the top and it has the most awesome view! There are a couple side trails to walk on.
