Confirmed from Orchard Lake Nature Sanctuary's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Orchard Lake Nature Sanctuary

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (221 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 10 mentions

“It's a beautiful place to walk around and see nature.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 5 mentions

“Though it is smaller, and tucked close to main roads, this nature sanctuary provides a pleasant and peaceful escape from the city.”

I always end up bringing a bag with me to pick up any garbage I find. It's very sad to see so much on the ground. The problem areas are by the parking lot and by the lake. It's a beautiful place to walk. So if everyone picks up after themselves, and helps keep the place clean I would be very happy.

Though it is smaller, and tucked close to main roads, this nature sanctuary provides a pleasant and peaceful escape from the city. Take the time to walk around the entire sanctuary, enjoying a distanced view of Orchard Lake and a up close and personal encounter with the Upper Straits Lake.

Good place to take a short walk through an old forest. Trails are wood chip or dirt but well kept. There's a small pavilion with a place to burn wood in the middle of the trails. No legit access to the lake but there are ways to walk up to the water.

I love this small park! It is a mature forest environment with lots of huge oak trees and a nice small trail system. There is a small parking lot area near the entrance and it feels miles away from suburbia despite being right it in the middle of it. I highly recommend visiting if you have the chance :)

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
