This is a great trail with beautiful spidery oaks and a well established and wide "canopy road" path. For the most part the surface is well compacted and flat, although I did encounter a few spots of loose dirt and one muddy puddle. Inclines are present, but mostly mild.
Orchard Pond Trail was formerly an unpaved County road that connected Old Bainbridge Rd and N Meridian Rd. When the Orchard Pond Parkway toll road was opened the old road was in part converted into this trail. In many ways this road was very similar to other canopy roads found around here.
This has become a favorite place for me to walk. It is not paved so if you have issues walking this one proves to be a little bit bumpy. Rainy weather will cause puddles and the ground will get muddy. I've seen one or two people on the path. It's shaded so it does provide some cover from the sun.
There is another trailhead closer to Bannerman. The trail itself is the old Orchard Pond Road. It is an old dirt road with good shade from the canopy trees covering it. It is more an opportunity to get out of town and walk than it is a good place to commune with nature.
