Confirmed from Panola Shoals Trailhead South River Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Panola Shoals Trailhead South River Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (296 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🌾 quiet & peaceful 5 mentions

“It's serene & acts as the median between the river & actual neighborhoods.”

We are so happy we found this trail! Not far from our house, and a decent sized parking lot. Definitely a biking trail for me. A few hills, but overall a nice section of trail! There is a sizable but satisfying hill on the Alexander Lake Loop.

★★★★★ — Helen , Apr 2024

A nice change of pace just east of Atlanta. Generally pretty quiet place to go for a walk. Parking was easy (and free). . Best part is the deer.

★★★★★ — Kellie , Sep 2023

Nice & smooth paved trail for biking, jogging, roller skating, etc. CONS: Access to the river is temporarily disabled unless you disregard the signs 😈. PROS: Able to see deer along the <2 mile paved trail. It's serene & acts as the median between the river & actual neighborhoods.

★★★★★ — Brandon , Jul 2022

Wonderful paved trails with forest and river views. You can also try accessing from MLK High School as well. Keep an eye out for the wildlife!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
