We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Patriots Hill yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Breezy, easy and hilly hiking area with trails for walking and biking, and views of Dana Point Harbor.
What runners say about Patriots Hill
“Miles of trails all around for novice or avid hikers, beautiful south county setting, and a view of the ocean from every hilltop.”
Have been hiking the trail leading to the flagpole site for over 10 years. A flagpole is a result of the Scout Project, and rolling undulating hills of the trail resulted in the hiker's giving it a nickname Roller Coaster Trail. you can always enjoy magnificent sunsets overlooking Dana Point Harbor from here.
Love Patriots Hill. We go trial running here with my dogs a few times a month. People and dogs usually pleasant and round trip to flag pole off Camino de Los Mares trail head is about 4.5 miles round trip. Lots of fun lots of uphill on this route to flag but lots of downhill on the way back.
Great place to to a walk or hike. You never know what you will see. The ocean at top.
From the end of Camino las Ramblas catch the trail head, go left and head uphill -- there's more than one way, but you'll get where you need to go regardless. Follow signs for Patriot Trail. There are side trails, many of which just wind in a different loop.
