My wife and I walked out to the fishing pond and viewing area and it was a delight! It's a short walk with well mowed paths and very quiet! Large areas along the trail by the pond and viewing are were covered with Black Eyed Susan, clusters of Fleabane, thistle, and other wildflowers!
Brand new FP. Nice trails, very nice shelter, pit toilets. If you walk .44 of a mile you get to see a nice overlook. From KCFP: Pickerill-Pigott Forest Preserve Pickerill-Pigott Forest Preserve was established in 2007, named in honor of Ken and Jackie Pickerill who donated their land and estate home to the District.
Many will tell you this place doesn't exist, but I'm here to inform you that it does! The preserve isn't yet open to the general public, which is why the road it leads you to is blocked off. However, I was able to get in early due to volunteering to clear out Honeysuckle.
Nice little forest preserve, with a .2 mile loop around a smaller pond as you drive in, and a longer .44 mile hike out to an overlook with a lovely view. Nice and shady in most spots, so good for families with little kids. A map of the park would be useful, but this is an easy place to get lost and found again.
