Confirmed from Pickett Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Pickett Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (166 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 11 mentions

“Great trail to bring kids on, but there are a few cliffs that have stunning views, but you need to be careful near them.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“A few hours swimming after a tennis ball makes for a quiet and sleepy DOG!”

👟 good for all levels 8 mentions

“Easy trail some mostly dirt trail some rock stairs, wood stairs, steel stairs.”

Easy trail some mostly dirt trail some rock stairs, wood stairs, steel stairs. Short bridge . Pretty easy, we are a little on the hefty side but it was easy enough for us. We also took our dog. Take atleast one bottle of water each and some for your dog.

If you walk to the end of the Blue Hole, this trail is tucked away. It's an incredibly easy hike with gorgeous views!!

★★★★★ — Kristen , Apr 2021

This is one of my favorite trails in Georgetown. It's short enough I can hike to the end and back in less than an hour, taking pictures and enjoy the beauty of the trail. It is a moderate hike, with a few rock steps, and one or two step climbs, with steps. Dogs that are leashed are welcome to enjoy the trail with you.

This is a short but challenging little hike. Very nice views of the river.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 18 mentions

“The river was very clear, fishing available, a nice little walking path that is receiving renovations, a small "waterfall," and plenty of wildlife.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
