Confirmed from Poestenkill Gorge Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Poestenkill Gorge Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (100 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 13 mentions

“this place is gorgeous… my friends and i went all summer long and swam.”

🪧 well-marked 2 mentions

“The trail was easy to navigate, though I suspect the view would be better in cooler months as the trees were obscuring the falls in May when we visited.”

The story behind this gorge is displayed on a board. You can appreciate the view without the leaves on the trees so the spring or winter is a nice time to visit young kids can pick out the remnants of the factory that used to be here and adult adults can get an appreciation for it. The small trail is easy for kids

I’ve been passing by this place for ages, but I finally made it there two days ago. As soon as I turned right, I knew I was in for a treat. It’s such a nice place for a walk. You can spend a whole hour or two here, just soaking up the water and getting amazed by the drops. But there’s one thing that needs to be fixed.

The city can really do a better job in highlighting the area for visitors to discover. The trail is really hard to see from the parking spot. The fall was beautiful.

★★★★★ — Everest , Jun 2024

Poestenkill Gorge Park offers a short hike to a nice waterfall. The hiking path is very short, wide, and easy to follow. A round trip hike takes about 10-15 minutes. Some of the signs along the trail are vandalized and it hurts this otherwise nice spot.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

“You do need to cross a grassy expanse to get to the actual trail from the parking lot, but there is a sign there to point the way.”
