Confirmed from Pogues Run Art and Nature Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Pogues Run Art and Nature Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (264 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“This park won't be a quiet nature hike necessarily, but it offers its own unique experience, and the birds like it!”

Had the whole place to myself today! It was wet and chilly, but I did see ducks out swimming. I forgot my binoculars, so make sure to bring yours. The interstate makes it loud of course, but the juxtaposition of the flow of cars next to this working wetland is interesting, and the habitat is used so I'm glad someone…

Not a bad place for a run or a quick walk, very loud interstate noise unfortunately, recommend avoiding at rush hour unless you don't mind the noise. There isn't a lot of "art" here, just a handful of slightly modified benches...and a small amount of sculpture. Lots of birds to enjoy here.

★★★★☆ — Twon , Mar 2024

It kinda has a marsh, low wet land look to it which is unique for Indy. Great place for an easy walk. The highway is a bit distracting but overall it's a pretty peaceful place. The artwork that stands throughout the park is really cool. A lot of pieces that are fun to take picture with.

beautiful trail, wish it was paved but it’s still a hidden gem in this part of town.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🐕 Dog-friendly 5 mentions

“We were looking for a place to just get the dog some exercise and this was the place.”

Plan your run at Pogues Run Art and Nature Park

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfaceCrushed gravel — the rail-trail classic: softer than asphalt, still smooth enough for tempo work
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
