We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Prairie Trail Head yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Prairie Trail Head
It is a good through the woods over the hills trail in a natural area. This is a gem of a wild space open to the public for what I have seen in cities similar to the size of Huntsville. Can be accessed by low water crossings of Town Branch on the north end of the developed part of the park, or a trailhead at 7th St.
The most beautiful park inside the city of Huntsville, love it, I see deer , turtles, all kind of native Texas flowers like blue bonnet, it makes my heart happy go running, hiking or taking pictures
A short nature trail of about a mile and a half loop that treks through several ecosystems - there is a small prairie with some cedars, pine stands, and an oak bottomland along Town Creek. Great spot for birding and wildlife viewing. Saw about twenty bird species, plus deer, rabbits, and a fox.

The practical stuff
- AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
