Confirmed from Preddy Creek Trail Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🏃 great for running 3 mentions

“This is such a great place to hike, bike and run (or walk, ride horses, and take your pups!”

🪧 well-marked 5 mentions

“Nice trails, very well marked with each trail names and a nice Creek to pass with the horses(water crossing).”

🐕 dog-walking favorite 4 mentions

“Mostly dog walkers and horse riding.”

It's unusual for a park designed solely with trails for bikes, hikers, & horses. Preddy Trail Park is located near Barboursville near Charlottesville. The network of trails is quite expansive and well marked at intersections. I took the outer Preddy Creek Loop with a few inner trails to add distance. The Loop is 4.

Great trails pet friendly! Not super hard and interesting. We did the full Preddy Trail Loop and it took about 2:20 hours. We had our small 11 year old bichon frise mix dog and he did almost the full loop, he got tired on the last portion though and we carried him on a pet carrier.

★★★★★ — Tristian , May 2022

Great nature trail! Took a loop that was about four miles, great exercise. There were many more interlocking trails, I'm sure I could hike this place 40 times and take a different route everytime. Bike trail with obstacle course for experts.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
