Confirmed from Proctor Valley Natural Resource Area's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Nature preserve featuring mountain-biking trails and a variety of wildlife, from tarantulas to coyotes.
What runners say about Proctor Valley Natural Resource Area
“Beautiful open area with access to the Reservoirs and plenty of hiking trails to hike and mountain bike, take plenty of water and watch out for rattlesnakes .”
I love this place because is a great trail near by San Diego city about 20 minutes this hiking is a loop about 20 miles up and down and the views are increíble you can see Jamul mountains and Otay Lakes
A good quite place to hike up to the Horseshoe Peak Summit. Pretty decent working out to get there and if u ran into a few ppl on the trails....consider urself lucky. It's anything but crowded here.
Just don't drive here at night if this is your first time visiting. I did just that and lost my orientation. It's a dirt road that didn't seem to end. Just thinking about that night creeps me out. Anyways, that was years ago. This road is decent hiking if there is daylight.

“Overall, the area is rocky with elevation.”
