Confirmed from Prospect Park Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Prospect Park Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (64 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

I'm sure glad I like to get off the beaten path. I've been to two of the entry points height three or four times. But as I was scaring the San Marcos neighborhoods 40 point of view of a great sunset I wondered upon the prospect I believe it's the #8 entry point.

★★★★★ — Scott , May 2019

Super cool nature trail! I have experienced all types of wildlife. I have used the trails for exercise and enjoyment. There are signs to help you get around and to identify what you are seeing. I have even taken kids there to give an educational lesson and get exercise. I highly recommend visiting the park.

We did 5.5 miles plus with our fearless ZZZzzz best hike leader host. 75%+ was shaded and had variable terrain - all good Great to see, meet and get to know newcomers that came. It was great to share breakfast tacos afterwards with the usual and new hikers.

Part of a larger system. Varied terrain. A mix wide smooth path and narrow rough irregular trail. Forest and meadow. Many birds. Wild flowers. Parking at the trail head. Subject to flash floods during heavy rain.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🌲 Natural surface / singletrack 3 mentions

“Great place for hiking, but most of the trails up in the north east area are too rocky for bike riding.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
