We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Raven Glen Forest Preserve yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Nature preserve offering hiking, biking & horseback riding trails, plus a lake with 2 fishing piers.
What runners say about Raven Glen Forest Preserve
“Paved parking, Non-flushing toilets, gravel/sand walkways that are well maintained but definitely muddy when the snow melts.”
“It was as beautiful them, and having the thrill of knowing this place then and now fascinates me.”
“It so serene, how can anyone not find inner peace within themselves when taking a walk through these trails.”
Excellent walking trail! Very nice equestrian trails and horse trailer parking. Part of the site has lots of mature trees, I'd say half. Beautiful trees! The rest of the trail is more like prairie, but also very nice. If you're walking a dog in summer be mindful of that.
St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waukegan does a monthly God "Wauk" in one of our Forest Preserves. Dogs and their people are welcome! The Wauk features fellowship, worship, and communion in an open air, nature friendly environment. Our first Wauk of 2025 featured fewer walkers and pets than usual.
This place is spectacular for its breathtaking beauty. It so serene, how can anyone not find inner peace within themselves when taking a walk through these trails. My favorite is sitting at the dock and enjoying the beauty of this water Lilly filled lake.
This forest preserve consists of two sections (east and west) that do not connect. The east section (off rt. 45) is larger and has lake access. I actually prefer the west section (off rt. 173) for walking/hiking due to the trail design being a bit better in my opinion.

“My dog comes across as aggressive, and even if he wouldn't hurt anybody he still makes people nervous, so this park makes for a pleasant walk for us both.”
“Enjoyed hiking the gently rolling hills and around the lake, then taking the new pedestrian tunnel under Route 45 to briefly check out Ethel's Woods.”
