Confirmed from Red Town Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Red Town Trailhead
“Really beautiful walk with almost complete canopy coverage, perfect for rainy days.”
“This trail is well-marked and easy to follow, which I appreciated.”
“There are tons of flat and easy trails, but also many trails that have some good elevation gain if that’s what your goal is.”
Beautiful trail. I’d give it a 1/5 in terms of difficulty. There are a few different trails which are all interconnected. Would recommend to go on a few different ones as each one is unique. The trail can get a little muddy if you’re going after rain. There are a couple of waterfalls in this network of trails
Really beautiful walk with almost complete canopy coverage, perfect for rainy days. The waterfall is awesome! Just wish the whole trail was gravel - the part that’s just dirt is definitely a mess whenever it’s wet at all.
Cougar Mountain from redtown are some of my favorite trails and the dogs love them. There are tons of flat and easy trails, but also many trails that have some good elevation gain if that’s what your goal is.
Very easy and beautiful hike. It is kids and elderly-friendly. The parking lot at the trailhead could be busy during the day, so I recommend coming in the morning.
Trail conditions & character
“While there were a few glimpses of wildlife, the scenery was a bit underwhelming, and I had hoped for more impressive views.”
“And, it would be awesome to have better pedestrian crossing protection/awareness from the East parking lot.”
“There’s bears and cougars and more wildlife so the dog may run off if not on a leash and it’s too big of a place for them or you to get lost.”
“Just wish the whole trail was gravel - the part that’s just dirt is definitely a mess whenever it’s wet at all.”
“No permanent bathrooms, but a couple port-o-potties.”
“This trail is well-marked and easy to follow, which I appreciated.”
