Confirmed from Red Wing Recreation Area's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Red Wing Recreation Area

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (18 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

Short walk, uphill in parts but not daunting. VERY well maintained trails. Well marked, punctuated by endearing butterfly crossing and deer crossing signage and humorous, diminutive Stop signs where trails meet (just in case there is a "rush hour" view is truly pretty.

Please keep your dogs on a leash. I often ride my horse on the trails. Thank you.

We entered through the Velie road area and took three dogs with us. It was truly a great experience. Very well mowed down trails, very easy to see trails. Absolutely stunning scenery. They had some really cool carvings of bears and eagles and animals along the route.

This is a great area to hike, snowshoe, or cross country ski close to home for those who live in or near LaGrange, NY in Dutchess County. The trails on the wooded hills give a good workout, and some parts of the hills are covered with only native vegetation which is beautiful.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
