Confirmed from Rice Canyon Demonstration Gardens' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Rice Canyon Demonstration Gardens

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (107 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 8 mentions

“Very beautiful trail for hiking or riding, but just watch out because right now there's alot of rattle snakes , big ones becarefull with kids and lil dogs !”

🐕 dog-walking favorite 3 mentions

“Rice Canyon is a great place to walk the dog and rest.”

Dogs are allowed on the trail. If you don't carry your own doggy bags with you, make sure you grab a few at the start of the trail (there are some free ones) since there aren't any further down the path. There was unfortunately a lot of dog poop along the trail.

Excellent little cactus and succulent garden at the trailhead to a beautiful canyon system in Chula Vista. Located across the street from discovery park with a dedicated lot. There’s always something in bloom and it changes throughout the seasons. Beautiful and free!

Beautiful trail, spent lots of time here with my friends. Good memories. If you walk the entire trail and come back its about 3 miles. Wear a depends or your own toilet paper because there are no bathrooms. Just saying .

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
