Confirmed from Rifle Mountain Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Rifle Mountain Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (265 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 14 mentions

“Depending on the road you use it's a gorgeous drive and should take you past Harvey State Park and god it's a gorgeous lake so stop by before or after.”

AMAZING!! Traveled here in January, the ice caves were so beautiful, I definitely recommend visiting at least once. A car with four wheel drive or good in snow is best. Bring specialized shoes called crampons so you can hike around on the ice and some warm clothes.

★★★★★ — Lissy , Jul 2023

Beautiful area. The waterfall is breath taking, there are a few little caves to look in/walk in and further down the road is great areas for mountain climbing. But make sure to take the trail to the right of the falls for a lighter/easier hike, to the left is a little more strenuous.

★★★★★ — Breanna , Sep 2020

Ice caves are super cool and a pretty short hike depending on where you park.

★★★★★ — Mr. , Mar 2022

Beautiful area in all seasons! There's climbing, hiking, picnic areas, camping, and it's dog friendly. There's so much to do here, and the canyon is stunning. The views all around are incredible. We love visiting in the winter to see the ice caves!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
