Confirmed from Riverdale Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Riverdale Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (261 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 6 mentions

“Nestled between the Hudson River and the furthest western street in the Bronx is this beautiful park.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 5 mentions

“It is quiet with many trees and squirrels to keep you company.”

It's my hidden weekend gem. It's a lovely place to walk the dogs. The lovely place to meditate. It's a lovely place to go running. It's a little busy during the week so I tend to only go on weekends.

This is one of the places that makes me happy to live in Riverdale. Nestled between the Hudson River and the furthest western street in the Bronx is this beautiful park. It is quiet with many trees and squirrels to keep you company. I sat on log the other day, gazing through the red and yellow leaves at the river.

★★★★★ — Tzemah , Nov 2023

Very nice park for hiking and walking the dog; however, there is no place to sit except for some tree trunks on the ground. The are some tents made of the tree branches.

★★★★☆ — Yanilda , May 2025

The trail runs right alongside the Metro-North Hudson Line tracks (the stretch between the Riverdale and Spuyten Duyvil stops), and the fence isn't aligning the whole way. A distracted dog chasing a rabbit or squirrel can easily run right onto the active tracks.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

“I did the blue trail, which is lovely, well marked, and fallen branches and trees are cleared from the path leaving a very obvious trail even when you don’t see the next marker.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
