Confirmed from Riverview Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Park featuring a gazebo and sweeping riverfront views, plus a serene atmosphere.
What runners say about Riverview Park
“Beautiful views of the river high above the city of Alton, complete with beautiful trees and a gazebo sized for a concert!”
“Peaceful place, great for a picnic lunch with some nice river views.”
I came here today to check out a new park with my friend along the way to the state park, and I found this quaint city park with a great view of the Mississippi River overlooking St. Charles, MO. I played catch and fetch with my dog, and he got to run around the upper part of the park off-leash.
What a beautiful place of peace high above the Mississippi RiverBend! Amazing panoramic view for miles. One of my very favorite sunset spots. The perfect place to launch Chinese Lanterns also. Gotta check it out if you've never been there.
Stairs are cool. The view is beautiful. If when you're looking at the large steps you walk off to your right. There is another small trail that leads to a beautiful outlook of the river.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
