Confirmed from Russell Commons Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Clean area for dogs and kids featuring bike trails and river views.

We just drove through the park to use the dog park. The park looks small, but it's a nice looking facility, with covered picnic tables and restrooms. The dog park is great, but requires an annual membership available at Alton city hall, Parks and Rec located on Fosterberg Rd, and the Alton marina.
Russell Commons Park is a relaxing peaceful place to take a walk ride a bike walk ur dog on the trail and see the beautifull Mississippi river along the levey and if you walk alll the way down u can go you will end up at the core of Engineers whichs is pretty cool if your down for a long walk.
Great dog park ! Sometimes as many as 9 dogs in large dog run. Needs water supply. Many owners bring water and dog dish large size. I have been at park with temp -18 degrees, someone was there with their dog. Played fence running 35 minutes. Come to park learn what fence running is all about.
Nice area. Pavillons, picnic tables, rest rooms and play ground all close together. Bike, jogging trail dog park. Never very crowded. No big rigs or alcohol allowed.
Trail conditions & character
“I use the dog park here, which you must get permission to use and pay the city, but it's a nice huge park, but a bit of a mud pit if it's wet.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceBoardwalk — flat and scenic, and slick when wet, so watch your footing
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadrestrooms, water — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
