Confirmed from Rotary Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Kid-friendly hiking area with picnic facilities, as well as a launch for kayaking.

What runners say about Rotary Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (67 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 3 mentions

“The trail is nice and clean and the weather was great.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 6 mentions

“Gorgeous views, gravel paths, perfect long route with two optional difficult paths along the way and an extra loop by the big chair near the water!”

🌳 shaded & cool 4 mentions

“There's no shade, so if it's hot and sunny, you'll want to avoid midday.”

Great place to get your steps in. It’s a moderately easy walk on gravel. There’s plenty of benches along the path around the lake if needed. Beautiful picnic pavilion. Great views, good exercise and pet friendly.

★★★★☆ — Debby , Apr 2025

Nice park with a path around the lake for hiking. Kayak Rentals are available at the pier. Great fishing but catch and release only.

★★★★★ — Jordan , Jun 2023

Newer Cary park district facility. An old stone quarry transformed to a nice park. Not a speck of shade on site so be prepared for a lot of sun and wind. The three mile trail is all gravel so be aware the footing can be difficult for young children. Very nice lake with washroom on site with seating in parking lot area

★★★★★ — Dale , Jun 2022

Gorgeous views, gravel paths, perfect long route with two optional difficult paths along the way and an extra loop by the big chair near the water! No lights at night. Fishing and kayaking available. Lots of room on the wide paths for walking your dogs. Outhouse at parking lot.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Rotary Park

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.

Posted hours for the park or trailhead. Gates and parking lots often close earlier than the trail itself, and seasonal hours change — worth a check before a pre-dawn or after-dark run.
