Confirmed from Rountree Branch Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Paved trail with LED lighting and workout stations, popular for walking.
What runners say about Rountree Branch Trail
“Love the trails, always clean and trail people are nice and friendly if you see me out there say Hello and take a trail picture with me”
“Beautiful paved and lit hiking/biking trail that connects to other trails.”
Very nice trail for a stroll. Tree's and a wondering creek to one side. Unfortunately, obvious civilization on the other... Farther down seems to be all nature but I haven't traveled. Yet. Take your puppy with and rest at the dog park!
A wonderful nature trail, not very far from the main road. I saw at least one deer and approx. 20 rabbits. The trail runs along a creek and is partially covered by trees, so it's suitable for runs in summer when the sun is scorching hot. There are plenty of test spots along the trail and an outdoor gym to exercise.
Love this trail. Mostly paved with some single track fun for you adventurous types. About 8 mile loop around Platteville. About 10 miles with the single track loops. And about 14 miles with the trail out to Walmart.
Beautiful place to take a walk specially in the spring or fall. Or whatever your favorite season is. 100% all around it is a wonderful beauty of the "Third Rock From The Sun" (Earth).

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
