Confirmed from Rubio Woods' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Scenic open space with cycling/walking paths, a picnic grove & deer & other local wildlife.
What runners say about Rubio Woods
“It's well maintained and safe, and the riff raff haven't yet discovered it, so it's a "must walk" for people looking for quality time in a quality place.”
“Will be returning in the Fall as I imagine it would be gorgeous (will update with photos).”
“Very lush, quiet and private, tons of places to explore where you don’t feel like you’re on top of other people”
The actual trail is for the most part great - pristine, untouched prairies offer a glimpse of what Illinois probably looked like a couple of hundred years ago. Will be returning in the Fall as I imagine it would be gorgeous (will update with photos).
The "gateway" to Bachelor's Grove Cemetery. The woods are, well, woods. Well kept, never crowded. Nice bike paths.
I love this place! I go there for long walks, and it is a great place for that - walks. It's well maintained and safe, and the riff raff haven't yet discovered it, so it's a "must walk" for people looking for quality time in a quality place.
Pretty fun and great for families. Beware of snakes because they really blend in and can be hard to spot while walking. Noticed some really cute frogs and birds too. Really recommend to go to during fall and sunny days
Trail conditions & character
“Bike riding is more or less enjoyable though there are some choppy points and more street crossings than I'd prefer - for that reason I suggest parking at 135th St.”

The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
