Confirmed from Sahuarita Trailhead of the The Arizona Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Traditional Sonoran high-desert hiking trail often used for mountain biking.

“There are beautiful views and plenty of interesting desert wildlife.”
“Its well marked, although a current up to date map is highly recommended to bring along.”
Wonderful trail that's best avoided in the extreme heat. Pack it in & pack it out. Bring lots of water.
I ride this trail fairly often, it is well maintained. I have ridden it at night. It is safe and beautiful.
This is your traditional Sonoran high desert trail. Great access point. Wide open to the sun. Easy to follow. Fairly flat with slight elevation. Going south for 2+ miles before it begins some elevation gain. Thank you Arizona for creating a State Trail.
Absolutely stunning early evening hike. . But watch out. Hubby nearly stepped on a large rattlesnake at dusk. It was lying very still right across the trail a few hundred yards from the entrance.

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
