Confirmed from San Timoteo Nature Sanctuary's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Such a perfect for easy hike, walk, running or cycling! Mostly flat and all dirt trail. There is ample parking on allesandro unless its busy. It offers great views of the hills and the san mateo canyon. There is a portable potty. And logs that one can sit or have a picnic.

Great trail. We had a great time! Good for kids of all ages and we even took a double stroller. We went about 3 miles in.

It works well for mild trail run, nice sand/dirt trail, pretty level, plus kid and pet friendly.

Very lovely for a trail walk or run! Many dogs were on leash and you can ride your horse here as well. There’s streams of water and nice flat ground. At the bugging of the trail theres first aid kit and doggy bags. Highly recommend you come visit.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at San Timoteo Nature Sanctuary

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
