We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Santiam State Forest yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“Still a beautiful place after the big fires 2019”

I'm just amazed at how the 2020 wildfires had skipped over places you'll walk along and see all the burnt trees and then you'll walk right into a growth of trees that weren't even touched and then walk some more and you'll be back into burnt out areas but you know what it's still a peaceful place to go and reflect

Seems like someone took care of the hornets - thank you! The hike is slick from the rains, but the ropes make it doable - I suggest some garden gloves to help with the ropes. And, wow, what a spectacular waterfall!

★★★★★ — Hipolito , Nov 2022

The hike wasn't hard to do. If you want to avoid crowds it's best to arrive early.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
