Confirmed from Sassafras Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Sassafras Trailhead
This is a wonderful trail that is managed by the Westford Conservation Trust. The large boulders, named "house" and "barn" should be considered the "El Capitan" and "Half Dome" of the East. They are both majestic in their beauty and beautiful in their majesty.
This is the entrance to a very interesting network of trails through about 40 acres of beautiful woodlands filled with glacial erratic boulders, including two very large ones known as the “house and barn”.
Saturday morning group hike with the Westford Conservation Trust , at the Sassafras Trail (Westford, MA). It was led by Trust President Rich Strazdas, and we parked at the end of Sawmill Road.
Trail conditions & character
“There was an abandoned quarry somewhere around there and we'd climb all over the slabs of rocks and catch tadpoles in the pond.”
“The trails tend to be rocky with lots of small ups and downs, but quite pleasant.”
