Confirmed from Scalloptown Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Scalloptown Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (151 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 3 mentions

“Clean so please help keep it that way.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 6 mentions

“Beautiful area, live and wild animals such as geese and other flying and tree creatures so be cautious when bringing dogs.”

🐕 dog-walking favorite 6 mentions

“Dog friendly, handicapped accessible, nice walking path, and beautiful views, especially if you love both the ocean and trains like my family.”

4 stars for clientele not the park itself. Clear signage that dogs most be on leash and waste removal is required by law. Two separate people allowed their dogs to charge and bark at us while we were trying to enjoy the trail. Dogs were chasing wildlife, waste was everywhere along the trail.

This is the best place!! Dogs can be free to run and have a great time playing and making new dog friends. Not a good place for dogs that are not friendly.

★★★★★ — Carlene , Sep 2019

This is a unenforced dog park at the end of the cove. Lots of history here from the early days to now. Many dogs come here and they are mostly unleashed, although it is supposed to be a leashed park. People do not obey the rules. Not sure why they are not enforced.

★★★★★ — Steve , Nov 2025

I took the dog for a walk here and there were many people that had brought their dogs as well. There is a well paved path path that goes through the park and families with small kids. Bring their bikes to ride on it.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
