Confirmed from Science Hill's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Science Hill
“A beautiful hidden gem park hidden behind a college campus!”
Great place to bring water shoes to walk up and down stream. Option of a few miles/km for this walk
Grew up here...we would climb the hills and swim in the creek...There was nothing better than walking through the snow and getting to the top of Devils Backbone and watching the snowfall...or walking along the creek bed with the ice and snow and listening to the trickle of the water....Beautiful in the fall too.
Great for either a short walk or long hike. Probably the most peaceful place on the Behrend campus and is popular with students. Check out the Devil's Backbone area for obstruction free views into the gorge in two directions. On a clear day you can even see the lake.
A beautiful hidden gem park hidden behind a college campus! Be sure to hike to the 3nd of it to see the big overlook

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
