Confirmed from Sewickley Heights Borough Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🐕 dog-walking favorite 4 mentions

“Please pick up after your dog and make sure your dog is under voice control at all times so that we are able to keep dog friendly access to this great park!”

I come here nearly every weekend. Snow or sun, fall or spring. Very lovely and maintained hiking trails that let you experience a variety of hikes, gravel or “off-road”. I highly appreciate that this place feels more country/seclude than the commute physically is. A true community gem.

Great place to go for a short hike (2-3 miles, or less) with your dog off leash! There's a big gravel trail or more rugged trails through the woods if you prefer. Dogs tend to congregate at the polo field to play, like a dog park.

Great spot to take your dog! There are trails as well as a large open field. Dogs can be off leash once they are 100 feet from the parking lot. I saw horse crossing signs, so I assume there are also horse friendly trails.

Beautiful spot! Lots of trails. I have done 2 hikes, there is a map posted at the parking area. I recommend taking a picture of the map so you can reference it as you walk. Many of the trails intersect and it is nice to have a point of reference.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceCrushed gravel — the rail-trail classic: softer than asphalt, still smooth enough for tempo work
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
