Confirmed from Shafran Conservation Area's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Shafran Conservation Area
“Absolutely beautiful, several cute little bridges over small brooks, great place to just unwind and take some photos.”
“Short , long or in between, you can customize a pleasant and easy walk in the woods.”
This is a beautiful forest, especially in the spring when the stream is running strong. The hike can be a little confusing and easy to loose your way if unfamiliar. Use AllTrails or Gaia to help with that. The outside loop is about 2 miles. Lots of tree roots on the paths.
This place is a beautiful forest preserve that helps protect the local water supply. The streams are pristine. There are beautiful old groves of gnarly mountain laurel. I hiked the orange loop in mid-october near the end of a sunny day.
Great hiking area with lots of streams bridges and a beautiful pine grove. We found this old car just off the orange trail.
Wonderful place! Streams are great, and there is an amazing Grove of evergreens. One of my favorite Tolland hiking areas.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
