Confirmed from Shepherd Canyon Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Shepherd Canyon Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (184 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 3 mentions

“Nice green grass, clean bathrooms, it's set at the bottom of this Canyon surrounded by trees.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 4 mentions

“We had a wonderful time it was beautiful lots of trails and scenic vistas to Observe I went there with the love of my life Christopher and we had an excellent time.”

Calm upper park with a small network of trails. Great for light walks. Large lower grass area where kids and adults play sports & with their dogs. Don't expect calm down there... Overall very clean, even the bathrooms. Park is busy on weekends, clearer on weekdays.

★★★★★ — Grant , Apr 2021

The park has a main area where most casual visitors spend most of their time in but since around 2010 there have been major upgrades to the walking paths up the hill and further up the creek.

★★★★☆ — Keane , Jan 2017

Length: 1 mile, flat and paved. Great for a half hour 2 mile walk. Dog lovers paradise.

★★★★★ — B , Dec 2017

Beautiful park with lots of good walking/hiking trails. Good for all levels of experience.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🐕 Dog-friendly 13 mentions

“People like to walk around the path, some bring their dogs both on and off leash.”
