We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Skyline Trail yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Skyline Trail
This hike is no joke. You need to train for this. This is not a hike for beginners.
This trail is TOUGH! Be prepared with a lot of water and be prepared to climb 8,000 ft to the tram. We ended up getting an Uber from the base of the tram back to our car at the trailhead for about $15.
One of my favorite hikes in southern California, start early to avoid the heat, even in the winter
Love the easy accessibility from the city to a robust hike. I only did the short jaunt to the crest of the first hill where the picnic tables were but it was great based on the location.
