Confirmed from South Mountain Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Quiet park offering picnic tables and trails for hiking and biking.
What runners say about South Mountain Trail
“Doesn't offer much in great views but it's a good afternoon hike through the woods.”
“Absolutely love it here whenever passing thru we stop very quiet and peaceful really hard to believe your in allentown”
I love taking my dog for little hikes here all year long. It's my easy escape from the world that is literally in my back yard. We always find some neat things on our walks. And she is a husky so she can just pull me thru some areas if I need it haha.
Very beautiful in the fall, especially the little ponds. Watch out though, a few trails lead to private property and the signs are not very well-placed
My favorite place to exercise. Follow the trails and make sure you bring water
Great place! Lots of interconnected trails. Streams, big boulders, well defined trails. The upper trails are great and secluded. Highly recommend this trail. Hidden gem.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
