Confirmed from Spaulding and Auke Nu Trail Head's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Spaulding and Auke Nu Trail Head

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (32 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

Had an amazing hike last week on Thanksgiving. It was dead still with no cloud cover. Fresh powder up there.

★★★★★ — Matthew , Dec 2023

This enjoyable 3.1 mile-trail begins at the parking area to the right of Glacier Highway (mile 12.3) and ends at Spaulding Meadows. There are plenty of blueberries in the summer and great views and cross-country skiing in the winter.

★★★★★ — Dr. , Jun 2018

It's a great trail to hike up into the meadows and enjoy some fantastic views.

★★★★☆ — Liam , Mar 2021

What an awesome trail. I hiked this trail 3 days in a row. Each day I went a little bit further. It snowed about 6 inches on top of the existing snow. This trail is pretty heavily used by cross country skiers and snow shoeing. That makes it much more accessible for regular hikers.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

“The last 3rd is like all trails here in Juneau that lead up muskeg meadows: wet, muddy and slippery 🙂 Pretty much can't avoid it unless there's snow on the ground.”
