Confirmed from Spence Ridge Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Hiking area with a gorge and a bridge, also featuring opportunities for swimming.
What runners say about Spence Ridge Trailhead
“If you are in the area this is a good place to stop and enjoy the beautiful scenery.”
Highly recommend crossing the river at the washed out bridge and continuing the trail. Someone put up a rope to take your packs across
Spence Ridge Trail is a pleasant hike down to the Linville River. Although there are no steep inclines or declines, the trail can get rough in some spots -especially near the river.
About a mile and a half in length. Moderate to difficult depending on your fitness level. I weigh a decent bit, but was able to go down to the river and back in one day. The trail itself is beautiful, but be ready for a rocky environment. Bring good, comfortable shoes and lots of water. Stay hydrated my friends.
Genuinely the most beautiful trail I've ever ever hiked. We are not local, and chose this trail on a whim. It was out of the way and kind of hard to get to, but this only meant it we had the whole place to ourselves. The hike itself is beautiful and passes through some very very cool campsites and over babbling Brooks.
