Confirmed from St. Johns Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Relaxed, grassy park featuring a river accessible for swimming and a paved trail for biking and hiking.
What runners say about St. Johns Park
“Beautiful place to just relax and unwind!”
“Some of the walk is shaded while other parts are in direct, hot sun, so I would definitely recommend some kind of sun protection during the summer.”
If you're looking for a great bike ride, small picnic area, a nice walk along the river, or a little escape from the feel of the city, St John's Park can give you that. There is a fully paved trail that goes both east and west along the river.
The weather was perfect this morning. It was cool with gentle winds that invigorated my soul. There was a lot of people riding bikes, walking, and people walking their dogs. The St. John's river had water in it, and the sound of the river flowing over the small dam was very peaceful.
Its a walking/jogging kind of park. It has the river you can swim at your own risk parts. Walk your dog(s). On the other side you can let your dog(s) run off the lish. Just do it in the early morning or late afternoon before sun goes down during the summer your dog(s) will have a heatstroke.
Trail conditions & character
“You should also know that because of the more "wild" feel of the St John's walk, many dog owners walk their dogs off leash.”
“There is a fully paved trail that goes both east and west along the river.”
“Some of the walk is shaded while other parts are in direct, hot sun, so I would definitely recommend some kind of sun protection during the summer.”
“There are smaller trails within the trees, but those are not wheelchair accessible nor would I recommend them for anybody who has trouble walking.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
- At the trailheadwater — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
