Confirmed from Steege Hill Nature Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Steege Hill Nature Preserve
“Trails are well marked and well maintained.”
The wife and I are in our late seventies and this hike with its 698 ft of elevation gain over 4.3 mile trail was a challenge. The trail is well marked and maintained.
HILLY AND WOODED AND BECKONING, the preserve was empty but for two of us on a weekday morning in summer 2022 and was ideal for a short hike. The welcoming trail was breezy and dappled with sunlight bright enough to show off shell and plant fossils. Refreshing. Recommended.
Great area to get away and get some quiet time and exercise! Several WELL MAINTAINED trails to choose from. We hiked the perimeter of the preserve in a little over two hours. White trail is probably the most difficult with respect to elevation change. Please heed the warnings about RATTLE SNAKES!
Havent done all the trails but the one I hiked- part of the yellow to the pond was very good. A lot of up and down hill with some fairly even stretches thrown in. Not much rocks to have to step over which was nice. Pond is small but nice to stop and relax there before heading back. Loop trail system.

“The yellow loop was the trail of choice as it is the most traveled.”
