We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Sunrise Peak yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Sunrise Peak

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (98 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 6 mentions

“There are a couple of great scenic overlooks halfway up if you don't want to go all the way to the top.”

🪧 well-marked 2 mentions

“Fun trail that's easy to follow.”

The trail from Lost Dog Trail to Sunrise Peak is a definite challenge. Lots of lose rocks, along the trail. Make sure that you wear a great pair of shoes. Preferably hiking shoes. Be prepared. Take water, snacks. Make sure your phone is fully charged.

beautiful hope from sunrise peak trailhead off via linda. a bit over 4 miles. took us roughly 2.5 hours with our dog on leash. wide enough trail to bring our dog and not too steep for her either. definitely a moderate to hard level of difficulty

★★★★★ — Nick , Dec 2023

Nice and challenging hike. Not ideal for a beginner. But if you are comfortable with Pinnacle Peak or Pestana peak this was a good combo of height and length. About 4 miles to the top and back. Water is at the base, no restrooms. Some extra parking about 100 yards down the hill.

★★★★★ — Matthew , Jan 2021

Stunning hike. Trailhead has restrooms. Around 4.3 miles roundtrip. About 1100ft elevation gain. It is a steep hike so come prepared accordingly. I recommend bringing more water than you think you'll need + starting early to beat the sun.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
