Confirmed from Sycamore Shoals State Park - Carter Mansion's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

A lovely park with a beautiful river walk along the Watauga River. They have a very nice gift shop with wonderful historic information. The fort and various events that are featured thru-out the year are also very good.

Don’t let Park Ranger Cory Franklin younger age fool you. WOW!!! He is full of history, knowledge and PASSION. He made the tour a wonderful walk back into time. I can honestly say he made history fun. You can tell he loves what he does and he does it well. He plays the part well. Bravo

Clean quiet great for quick family walks easy to push a stroller. Close to main road will hear noise but worth the trip

★★★★★ — Michelle , Sep 2021

Such a lovely little place to take a stroll. Me and my son walked through here everyday for 3 years . Behind it is a nice spot to just sit by the water and just take it all in . I do recommend not going alone if you're going down by the water due to it being so wooded in that particular spot .

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
