Confirmed from Tanyard Creek Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Recreation area in a former railroad corridor featuring a trail with wood footbridges & playgrounds.
What runners say about Tanyard Creek Park
“Everything was clean and well-kept, and the natural surroundings make it feel like a little escape in the city.”
“It has a creek and meadow that gives the best scenic views and is very soothing and relaxing for a picnic, meditation or working out.”
“This park is beautiful with lots of great sights, consistently clean, and shade.”
“Great for all members of the family; easy paths as well as more challenging yet peaceful ones as well.”
“There were many families here, locals walking their dogs, and friendly people.”
This has got to be one of my favorite lunch parks I have found so far! It's not very big, but what it doesn't have in size it makes up for in natural noise and a feeling of isolation in nature if you face the right direction. I took lunch in the creek connected to the park by a waterway.
A cool green area next to Tanyard Creek, which is an "urban creek" connected to sewerage. The "park" area is a little green open field & and a trail (also known as Northside trail) that is cool to walk/run through. The trail is part of the Beltline project.
This park was exactly what my partner and I needed on our visit. It was calm and relaxing with lots of space to walk, run, bike, sit, or play around. There were many families here, locals walking their dogs, and friendly people. We saw two parks in the distance that we walked and both were put to great use.
I visited on a weekday, so it wasn’t busy. The parking lot only fits six cars. When walking around, I noticed there are multiple paths to explore in the park, not just one. There are also two playgrounds for children, and the trail is easy to walk. I love this place, except that it doesn’t have a restroom.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
