Confirmed from Tekakwitha Woods Forest Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Picturesque preserve boasting oak and maple trees, as well as woods and hills, where canoeists, kayakers and boaters enjoy the Fox River and its trails.

“Have one bathroom very clean and well cared the whole park.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 11 mentions

“Go down the hill to the bridge that crosses the river- completely hidden from the road and absolutely beautiful”

Beautiful trails with lots of trees, animals, plants, flowers, the Fox River AND TICKS. My husband contracted lime after a walk in these trails. Beware!

★★★★☆ — Maria , Aug 2022

This is a Lush hiking trail. There are two major trails one mostly for biking, which is paved and the other is by the river, in the woods. There are ticks during spring season. Kayaking, fishing and even speedboat are accessible in the river.

★★★★☆ — Jagan , Jun 2022

Perfect place to visit, especially if you need some shade during the Summer. You won’t feel tired during exploring the trails. The bridge is beautiful.

★★★★★ — Lubystka , Jun 2025

Absolutely beautiful Forest Preserve. I visited early on a fall morning, and the scenery was amazing. Fantastic trails through the woods, and you can extend your hike by crossing the bridge to the Jon Duerr Forest Preserve.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Tekakwitha Woods Forest Preserve

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
