Confirmed from Tennessee Valley's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Tennessee Valley
“Incredible scenic views from the trails just north of the beach cove, and some old military barracks to explore.”
Small secluded beach at the end of the trail. During high winds the valley funnels the wind and sand into an unpleasant sandblaster at the beach. There are still good views up the hill when the winds are high though.
Great trails of varying difficulty with excellent ocean and bay views. Parking lot was full but there's plenty of overflow parking along the street
Lots of people on the sunny weekend days, but worth the hassle to find a place to park. Such a beautiful place. The hike is a gentle slope, descending only 200 ft to sea level. The upper trail is paved and wide and great for wheelchair access (a few potholes, but passable). The ecosystem is unique and vigorous.
This was the first Marin hike I did about 25 years back and I keep going back. Incredible scenic views from the trails just north of the beach cove, and some old military barracks to explore. Keeping heading north on the trail and eventually you'll hit Muir Beach.

“Another big plus of this area is the ample parking and a restroom at the trailhead.”
“The trail starts as a rough paved road and continues as an unpaved road until a parallel hiker only trail splits off for a short stretch.”

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
