Confirmed from The Black River Trails' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about The Black River Trails

Small, quiet little trail system. Not much to see here if you are driving in but a nice spot for a quick walk if you are local. It's mostly dense woods with no view but there is a pretty little pine plantation and a nice prairie.
The Black River Trails (2.5 mi.) begins at the northwest section of the Kohler-Andrae park on South 12th St. This area contains open field community and forested areas. Look for a variety of songbirds and wildflowers. Horses and mountain bikes permitted. Pets are allowed.
Love these trails, a great place for a walk with our pup in all seasons. Unfortunately many dog owners do not pick up after their dogs- walk carefully. Christmas decor is fun and unexpected.
Beautiful easy trails, especially the loop to the north. You can follow the trail north out of the loop, ignore the private property signs on the old fence. You can walk all the way to the Balzer Wilderness Park entrance.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
